We were invited by Escape Studios to come and speak about industry career paths to some of their current and future Escapees either doing, or looking to take, the Compositing for Visual Effects Course.

Shani, Neal and Tiago, all 2D Leads at Union were delighted to share their different stories along with some of their recent work at Union.

Shani came to VFX from an editing and motion graphics background, Tiago thought 3D was going to be his thing and Neal was lured from digital media when he saw what the VFX team at Sky were up to.

They each showed some of their work at Union on Mamma Mia! Here we go again, Happy! and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society before answering questions and chatting one on one with the students.

“Giving Escape students an insight into Union was a great experience! It was a lot of fun and it's always really rewarding to see people take inspiration from our projects.  Hopefully it will help them on their journey as VFX artists. I am sure our paths will cross with many of them in the future.”
Tiago

“It was a great experience talking about Union and interacting with the students at Escape.
I enjoyed sharing the great work we do at Union and specifically on the project I was lead on, which I am very proud of.  For me, the best part was talking with the students and answering their questions after the presentation.

“I tried to give them some tips on how to get started in the industry and hopefully helped them feel more confident about finding a job after they finish.

“I'm pretty sure most of them would love to come and work with us at Union after this evening, so hopefully we’ll see some of them soon.”
Shani

“It was great to meet the students at Escape Studios and present the work we do at Union. They were really attentive and their passion for VFX really shone through. The students had lots of questions about Union and the industry in general and it was rewarding for me to be able to pass on advice gained through my own personal experiences. One of the guys I mentor through the ACCESS:VFX Prospela mentor scheme that Union are part of was also at the event so it was great to meet him in person too.”
